freeman's construction: spray insulation
Hi, this is Bill Freeman with Freeman’s Construction. We’re installing spray foam insulation in this old farmhouse. They spray a thin layer on and it fills all the voids. After the foam expands, they will cut off the excess so that it is flush with the ceiling joists, and then the drywall can lay flat when they screw it in.
All of the foam goes directly up against the roof sheeting. It makes a very good barrier. No mold grows in there and as far as insulation goes, the entire HVAC system is encapsulated inside that area. We refer to this as a semi-conditioned attic because the temperature will only vary three to five degrees more than the house throughout the day.
