Ramona Whole House Remodel

Ramona Remodel

Whole House Remodel in Ramona CA by Freemans Construction Inc

Good morning. It’s Bill Freeman with Freeman Construction. We’re here this morning on a whole house remodel in Ramona. I wanted to show you what we’re doing for insulation in this building along with a couple of other things. We started using this spray foam insulation in the attics of our projects. One of the benefits of this product is the complete air infiltration barrier which prevents any air from moving through to the typical fiberglass batt insulation. Most of your heat loss and air loss occurs through the roof. There is 10 inches of insulation that is sprayed in those truss bays, it foams up, and then fills all the voids, and prevents any air from penetrating.

Alleviating the HVAC Workload

This home has two HVAC systems, and another huge benefit is these units are now in a conditioned space. As you can see, no insulation has been installed at the ceiling level. Since the insulation is at the roof line, this attic will only vary in temperature maybe two to four degrees in the middle of the summer. That takes a huge workload off your cooling system. As you know, if you go up in your attic during the summer, the temperature could be well over 100 degrees, even up to 130 or 140 degrees. The ducting insulation sits in the middle of that heat, and not only does that unit and ducting combat that heat, but it also must deal with the heat in the house. So, this roofline spray foam insulation makes a huge difference with your heating and cooling load.

Zero Barrier Showers

Another thing that I wanted to show you is these zero barrier shower pans. They allow you to enter the shower without stepping over a curb. If you have somebody that is in a wheelchair or has difficulty stepping over a curb or tub wall, this makes it easy for them to get in and out of the shower. We achieve this recessing the concrete here about two and a half to three inches and this allows our shower pan to get built down into the floor. Once we install the tile right here, we start sloping it into the shower pan down to the drain.

We call this a zero-barrier shower which is very popular right now. We’ve had customers that are aging in place, and we’ve changed the shower design to this. This project is a whole house remodel, so we actually cut this out to recess the concrete, install the tile floor, and the result is a nice clean entrance. These are a couple things I wanted to share with you today and I appreciate you listening to this video. Have a great day.
