Old Farmhouse Remodel: Window and Roof Removal

Old Farmhouse Demo Update

I’m working on this old farmhouse project in Middleton, Idaho. We’re tearing down almost everything.

Basement Window Removal

You can see that the windows have been removed at the back. We will pull the last one out and then take down the whole house. This old farmhouse will be dismantled piece by piece.

We dug down along the edge of the basement. This is the old basement window. What we found was that they did not form past the grade level. You can see the grade and where they started the forms. It’s rough below that, so we have to clean this off well and apply a skim coat to get the waterproofing to adhere. That’s going to be a bit of work.

In addition, one window will be modified to provide access to the crawl space. It may also be altered to include a door leading into the crawl space. We’re creating a mechanical room here. We were discussing this with the HVAC specialist yesterday.

Roof Removal

The plan is to dismantle the chimney on the roof piece by piece. It extends down to the basement. We’ll proceed to the next level once we’ve dismantled the top and removed the roof.
