Old Farmhouse Remodel Continuation
Today, we’re progressing with the demolition of our farmhouse remodel project in Middleton, Idaho. We’re focusing on the basement area beneath the floor decking, which the team is dismantling. They are working from below, pushing up the decking and removing it from above.
Floor Removal
I’ll share details about the old 1×12, 1×8, and 1×10 decking in today’s update. This material was originally used to form the basement when the house was constructed in 1952. It’s being carefully removed and will go in the dump tray.

Old Basement Window Removal
Another significant task involves removing the old basement windows in this old farmhouse. The team will use a sawzall to cut around the window frames, many of which rotted due to dirt accumulation over the years. While we may preserve some for their vintage appeal, we will dispose of most.
Foundation and Flooring Plans
Additionally, I’ll take you through our plans to reinforce the building’s foundation. As we prepare to add another story to this original single-story house, ensuring the foundation can support the additional weight is crucial. We plan to dig beneath the basement periodically to install piers at strategic points and reinforce the structure with new beams.
The floor sheathing has been completely removed, and the next steps involve removing the blocks that hold the joists together. After clearing these blocks, we will remove the rim joists and start repositioning the joists themselves. This restructuring will help support the new construction elements we plan to introduce.
