IWC Sliding Glass Door Installation Update
Hey everyone, this is Brandon with Freeman’s Construction. Welcome back to this new custom home we’re building in Ramona, California. We did a video on installing this IWC OXXO slider a few videos back. It’s all in now, so we have an IWC sliding glass door installation update to show you how it turned out.
We’ve got a lot of noise here at the job site today. We don’t have power yet, but they’re finally getting our electrical meter hooked up, which is an incredible milestone, and we have the finishing carpenter banging away with nails. So this means production, which we’re happy about, but bear with us as it gets noisy.
Recessed Sill
Anyway, let’s take a look down here at the recessed sill. I want to show you how this turned out with the floor height. If we did our math right, this should work out as we hoped.
LPV Flooring
So this is the luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring. You can see it right here how it flows in. We’re about a 32nd or 16th above our finished floor, exactly where we hoped to be. So, we will have a nice seamless transition, and it will be easy to clean.
However, you’d have a lip on that LVP floor if it was the other way. If the door sill was too low, then our LVP would sit above our door and wouldn’t have a finished end when you cut it. So it wouldn’t look as nice when finished, so we are pleased with how it turned out.

Waterproofed Sill
So as you can see here, this is that waterproof sill. It’s waterproofed and wraps up around that edge. The sill will all just get floated when the flooring contractor comes in and starts grinding, prepping, and leveling all these floors. So that’ll all get filled in and ready for our LVP installation.
Door Header
There’s one spot up here I want to show you too, which you can see is unfinished. As far as the top on the sides, there are two 2×6 headers stacked here, and we ended up furring this opening down.
The main reason is that when we’re recessing a sill like this, we have a general idea of where we will end up as far as height. However, it’s much easier to err on the side of much more space needed than only a little bit to work with. Then we level this to make sure the slab is even.
We gave ourselves three inches below that header, and there’s a large 6×18-inch laminated veneer lumber (LVL header) above that, so that’s not moving. We can’t grind any material or anything, so that’s why the space is here. And we fur it down with lumber and then shim it to ensure this header is perfectly straight and level once the door goes in.
To Wrap Up
So that’s the installation update for this IWC sliding glass door. It turned out fantastic. We also hoped to do this with the transition from the LVP flooring to the recessed sill.
I hope you enjoyed seeing how this IWC slider went in and the other details to make it look nice, clean, and seamless.
