Frost-Free Hose Bib Installation & Waterproofing Detail

Hose Bib Installation

Hi, it’s Brian Freeman here. I want to show you how we prep for frost-free hose bib installation on the house. We’re using a copper Woodford frost-free hose bib. It serves as the anchor point that attaches to the block and is connected with PEX-A expansion fittings.

The body of the bib is brass with a DZR (dezincification-resistant) rating. Using DZR-rated brass is important because it prevents pinholes from forming in the metal over time. The installation also leaves extra slack in the line inside the house, which makes future maintenance easier.

QuickFlash Installation

A QuickFlash is installed around the hose bib to maintain a watertight seal. This is the blue plastic flashing with a rubber gasket that allows the hose bib to slide in and out.

The QuickFlash is not taped with ZipTape or permanently bonded to the wall. Instead, it’s left flexible so the hose bib can be pushed back into the building or pulled out when replacement is needed. Combined with the slack left inside the house, this setup allows for easy repairs while keeping the waterproofing intact.
