Snow in the East San Diego Mountains (Project Update 2.9)
Good afternoon, this is Bill Freeman with Freeman’s Construction. I drove up to check on our job in Julian. Today is Thursday, and I think Tuesday was the last of the snow, but boy, it sure left a lot here. There’s probably eight to 12 inches and I drove up here just to make sure nothing blew away or leaked. Everything looks good other than a lot of snow on the ground, so hopefully this next rain will come and wash it away.
Framing and Block Walls
We are building a vacation home here on the west side of North Peak. You can see that we have the roof on now, and the insulators just finished their work right before the storm. As soon as the snow clears up, we’ll continue working on some more block walls. You can see the steel sticking up there for some retaining walls. We have a little more framing to complete on that storage area, but we need to remove some scaffolding on the other side so we can get into that area to build those walls and the floor.
Enjoying the Snow
We need the snow to melt, and I’m not sure if the storm coming in tonight will bring snow or rain, but it is just absolutely beautiful up here. I thoroughly enjoy coming up here and getting to see this, there is snow everywhere, as far as you can see. The road was plowed for just one lane. I’m the first one up here and nobody else has been out. I tried to get part way up the road, but I couldn’t make it, even in four-wheel drive so I decided to walk instead of putting my chains on to get up here to our project.
We finished installing the windows and will begin working on the exterior cladding as soon as the weather gets better, and things dry up a little bit.
