Demo Day 7: Backfilling the Basement & Grading the Property

Backfilling the Basement and Grading the Property

This is day seven of our demo project here in Nampa, Idaho. Today, we will show you how we’re backfilling the basement and grading the property.

Backfilling a Basement

All right. Brad’s down in the bottom of the basement. We’ve got some water here, and now he’s tracking it in and getting it tight in the bottom. We have a 500-gallon water trailer, and we’re using this to go ahead and wet down the bottom of this basement. So, it has a gas-powered pump on here. We’re trying to keep this thing from freezing and keep it rolling as much as possible.

Moving Berm Dirt Around

We have another skid working on this side, and we’re moving a bunch of dirt that the side dump had dumped here a while back. We’re taking the dirt and dumping it with this excavator into the side dump to move it. This will be a berm that’s getting built on the side of the road. The owner will use it for landscaping on this property.

What's Left to Do?

The skids are now done for the day. You can see that what used to be the basement has been flattened out. We have some grooming to do tomorrow, but you can also see this berm that got built all the way down. It’s about 250 or 300 feet, three to four feet tall, and about 20 feet wide, so you can see it’s quite a bit of dirt. We used the excavator over here, but that thing’s going away tomorrow. We’ll have these skid steers running on top of this berm, and they’ll be grooming it up tomorrow. They’ll track it in, tighten it up, and then we’ll be wrapping it up.

Final Thoughts

That wraps up day seven here on the demo project in Nampa. We finished backfilling the basement today and got a berm built along the road. We’re going to go ahead and do a final cleanup tomorrow before wrapping this thing up. We’ll keep you posted on day eight.
