Custom Home Project Update | Cabinets, Paint, Siding & More

Walking Around a Custom Home Project

Hey, everybody. Hey, we are on a custom home project in Ramona, California. We’ve done a couple of updates on this job in the past, and I wanted to show you what’s going on today. We have the exterior paints complete, the roof is done, the solar panels are on, and the cabinets are almost finished. The electrician is trimming out today, and the finish carpenter is finishing some closets. So I wanted to get you a walk around and take you inside.

Alternative Septic System

You saw the alternative septic systems we installed in one of our other videos. We’ve done a couple of them, and this is that alternative septic system. This is how all these tank lids look on the outside, and it’s better than having two risers coming out of the ground for your regular septic system. Then you can see the controller box is on the far right.

Back Porch

This is the back porch. It’s a nice covered area. And you can see how the builders put the rafters in here. It’s all open. So those are 4×8 rafters, and it’s all stained. There’s a spot for a fan to mount on the outside.

Duration MAX Shingles

These are those Duration MAX shingles you may have also seen in another video. They’re a little thicker, and they look nice.

Back of the RV Bay

This is the back of this RV bay where we’re walking around. This RV bay is 60 feet long. You can see how far it goes down this whole side here — it’s pretty significant. It’s also an excellent spot for the owners to pull their RV in here.

We’ll go ahead now and take a walk inside.

Electrical Box in a Kitchen Backsplash

So we’re in here in the kitchen now. And Hugh, the electrician, is moving over the electrical box layout we discussed a few weeks ago. When the backsplash change to full height happened, it wasn’t hitting the right spot, so he’s moving that over.

Kitchen Cabinets, Hood, and Island

When Brandon showed you the cabinets, these weren’t finished, but now they are. We got each side of the hood stained, and the hood itself is painted and will get a recessed vent. And then we still have to get glass in these cabinets.

You can also see the island, which got stained as well. The lower cabinets are all anchored against the wall here. And opposite them is where the farm sink will end up sitting.

Then there’s a pair of full-height cabinets on each side of the fireplace. That’s a Fireplace Xtraordinair unit, so it’s nice. It has air intake from the outside; it’s on the back porch. It will have a hearth and stone up to the ceiling.

Entrances

So as you walk in — I’m standing at the front door right now — it’s got the scissor truss that gives you a little more height in this room. And then you have the nice slider looking right out the back.

Finished Doors, Cabinets, and Shelves

So, the doors have been finished. You can see the paint, so that’s done. Some of the closets are still getting built, so the finish carpenter is here. These still need to be finished, but you can get an idea.

They’re doing some shelves on this one side of the closet and have two pull-out shelves here. I don’t know what will happen here, but this is the low-volt cabinet. So they have all the low voltage wires coming in here — that’s all wrapped up in the bottom down there.

More Cabinets in the Hallway

So check out the size of these cabinets here. That’s 12 feet or so long and nine feet tall. All the storage space in the hallway here is made up of cabinets.

Bathroom

Then let’s go to the bathroom. As you come in, this is your toilet area, and we have finished cabinets here.

It’s going to have a double vanity. And then we have a tub shower — you can see the tape and plywood on there to protect its face and keep it from getting scratched up during the build. The tile guys will come here and float on top of this. They’ll put in their lathe, paper, and wire. It’ll flush out with the face of that drywall, and the tile will get built out on top of that.

And then this is a big old niche, like a linear niche that you can see, we framed out here. You can see the bottom of it right there. Coming up, this will be the big old long soap dish that’s five feet long.

First Bedroom

So this is a bedroom down this way. Its closet is complete, and they’ve been painting in here. And you can see it’s been built out of a stack of 33 shelves, and they got a double rack and pole in here.

Second Bedroom

And you have another bedroom with another closet in here. So it’s got a bunch of shelving here heading up. We don’t have lights in here, but this is what we have going here.

Main Bedroom and Bathroom

Walk over, and this is the master. So going down to the master, we got a nice slider going out the back. There’s a window on each side of the bed wall.

This bedroom has bolted ceilings done with the scissor truss. And then this is the bathroom. So we’ve shown a few videos here before, but the cabinets are finished. Now, we got a stain on those.

We have a five-piece drawer front, which looks like the door itself. You could get these like a slab, but they would be all on one level.

Main Bathroom Specifics

This spot is where the zero-barrier shower will go. We’ve shown this before. It has a hot mop for waterproofing, and it’s all plumbed in.

And then we have a big old linear stoop niche as well. This whole thing is eight feet long. It’s going to be a significant soap edge.

This side is where the freestanding tub will sit. You have seen before that Brandon did a video of how to set it up, so you can check it out and see what that looks like.

Master Closet

This is a master closet; you can see it’s already built. It will still have some shelving put in, so it’s not done. The maker got all this sketched on the wall, and you can see what he’s getting ready to build. You can see all the shelving on the other side too.

Attic Space

This is the actual attic space here. We’ve been up there to show you some of the dehumidifiers and things going in there.

Let’s head back now, and I will walk down through the kitchen.

Pantry

We just went through the kitchen, and here we have the pantry. So you can see what’s going on in here. The maker is starting to build the shelving here. He’s got everything marked out on the walls as well. You can see how the lines mark the layout for the shelves.

Half Bathroom

We have another little half bath right off the kitchen here. So you have a little vanity on one side and a toilet on the other.

Laundry Area

This is the laundry cabinet where the washer and dryer will go. It’s set up off the ground. You can see at the back where the dryer vent will go. It’s recessed, so it doesn’t stick out into the space. The recess wall looks like it’s two by six feet tall. When you make the build a bit deeper, it is easier to get it in. And you can see more drawers, countertop space, and a little bench you can sit on.

Inside the RV Bay

This is this RV bay. It is a vast space. It has tall doors to make sure you get everything you want inside.

Ridge Beam for the RV Bay

So this here is a ridge beam. The finish carpenter will put it up. We already put all the backing in the wall, which will be on the ridge inside the great room area. And it’s a nice piece of lumber that will be stained to look nice. The finish carpenter said it was 30 feet long. He will get two genie lifts to lift it and then get it in place once he’s ready. He must do some Lincoln Log cuts to tie this thing together.
