Custom ADU Building Progress
Hello everyone, Brandon here from Freeman’s Construction. Today, I’m thrilled to share our latest project taking shape in the beautiful foothills of Ramona, California. We’re crafting an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) that’s progressing splendidly. I’m eager to walk you through this custom ADU to provide an update and showcase the developments.
Front Entry
Upon approaching the front entry, you’ll notice plans for a decorative stone veneer that will adorn the entirety of the front facade, extending to the corner. This home features an open beam, tongue-and-groove wraparound porch that offers breathtaking views from every angle.
We’re particularly proud of our progress on the board and batten siding. After wrapping the house in protective Tyvek wrap, our team trims out the windows and adds finishing touches, including the battens.

Inside the Custom ADU
Stepping inside through the sliding glass door at the rear, we enter the heart of the home: a combined kitchen, dining, and great room. Designed as a custom ADU, the space is maximized within its 1,200-square-foot limit to ensure efficiency and functionality. The result is a large, cohesive area that serves multiple purposes. A notable feature is the eight-by-eight-foot pocketing IWC sliding door, which opens up to the outside space.
The kitchen area boasts a unique vent system that has required careful planning to install perfectly. A custom-built hood, soon mounted on the wall, will conceal the ducting without needing an overhead chase. It’s a solution we implemented just days ago.
Adjacent to the kitchen, you’ll find a bedroom alongside one of the two full baths and an additional half bath, offering ample amenities for residents.
Custom ADU Story
The construction of this house is fascinating. We built it on an existing, up-to-code slab from a previously unpermitted structure. We’ve repurposed it with minor adjustments. The original masonry fireplace has been preserved and integrated into the new design, complemented by fresh brickwork.
The layout includes a spacious main bedroom leading to a well-appointed shower, complete with a bench and framed niches, showing our near readiness for the combination framing inspection. Final touches are being applied, including the backup electrical system throughout the home and the garage.
