Basement Demolition Update in Middleton, Idaho
By the end of the day, the crew made significant progress on the basement demolition. The entire floor system—including all joists—has been removed, along with the old windows. The grade outside the foundation was high, so temporary building wrap was installed to protect the electrical panels that power the well.

Chimney Removal and Site Cleanup
The team tore out the old chimney base and cleared out the concrete that once supported structural posts. Each post had been embedded in poured concrete, a common method used in older homes.
With demolition nearly complete, the site has been cleaned, and only one final dump load remains. Insulation between the wall’s bottom plate and the concrete was also removed to prepare for new framing and waterproofing work.
Wall Remodeling Plan
A couple of the basement walls are straight, and a couple are not. To correct this, the new framing will be held off the wall to create a flat finish and provide a thermal break.
The outer walls present a bigger challenge—sections were poured directly against soil without proper forming, leaving a rough surface. Before applying waterproofing, these areas will be chipped, pressure washed, and skim-coated with rapid-set cement to create a smooth surface. Once the walls are prepped, a fluid-applied waterproofing membrane will be rolled or sprayed on, followed by a drain board.
This process requires excavating around the entire basement, prepping and sealing the concrete, and then backfilling to complete a durable waterproofing system.
